Charhajare | 2 October 2026: The Sangai Foundation, in collaboration with the Navin Gorkha Youth Club, Charhajare, organised a cleanliness drive at the Charhajare Village Cremation Compound on 2nd October 2026 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, as part of the Swachhata Abhiyan.
The cleanliness drive was organised with the aim of promoting cleanliness and a sense of responsibility towards shared public spaces. The programme brought together members and volunteers of the Foundation and the Youth Club to contribute their time and effort towards keeping an important community space clean and well maintained.
The Cremation is an important place for the local community. Maintaining its surroundings in a clean and respectful condition is therefore not only a matter of cleanliness but also a way of showing respect for the place and the community.

For The Sangai Foundation, such activities are an important part of encouraging people to take collective responsibility for the places they share. A clean and healthy environment begins with small actions at the local level, and community participation can make these efforts more meaningful and sustainable.
Remembering Gandhi Through Action
Gandhi Jayanti is observed every year on 2nd October to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, whose life and work placed strong emphasis on cleanliness, discipline, self-reliance and service to society.
Conducting a cleanliness drive on Gandhi Jayanti provided an opportunity to remember these values through action. Rather than limiting the observance to a ceremonial programme, the Sangai Foundation and the Navin Gorkha Youth Club chose to mark the occasion through community service.
The initiative was also aligned with the broader objectives of the Swachhata Abhiyan, which encourages citizens to participate in maintaining clean surroundings and building a culture of cleanliness and civic responsibility.

The Sangai Foundation believes that sustainable community development is not achieved through the efforts of one organisation alone. It requires cooperation between community members, youth groups, local organisations and individuals. The cleanliness drive was a simple example of how collective participation can create a positive impact at the grassroots level.
The Sangai Foundation remains committed to supporting initiatives related to environmental protection, cleanliness, community development and public awareness. The Foundation hopes that activities such as this will encourage more people to take responsibility for their surroundings and contribute to building cleaner and healthier communities.
